About AA District One Area One

A District is a geographical unit containing the right number of groups – right in terms of the committee member’s ability to keep in frequent touch with them, to learn their problems, and find ways to contribute to their growth and well being.

District One Area One is an AA service Committee serving Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, and Lawrence Counties in Northwest Alabama. It is composed of the General Service Representatives (GSRs) of the AA Groups within its geographical boundaries, who elect a District Committee Member (DCM), an Alternate DCM, a Treasurer, a Secretary, a Public Information and Co-operation with the Professional Community (PI & CPC) committee chair*, a Corrections committee chair, a Treatment committee chair, an Archives committee chair, a Literature coordinator, a Website coordinator (Web servant), a Grapevine/La Vina coordinator, an Answering Service coordinator, and a Sentinel ( the District’s Newsletter) Editor. The District One committee meets on the last Sunday of each month at the 4th Dimension Group’s meeting hall at 3 pm.

The District One committee maintains a Literature Repository to supply AA literature to local groups at a convenient location at no additional cost beyond that charged by AAWS. It maintains a 24-hour hotline and this website. The committee also sponsors the local founder’s day celebration and other events.

* Most of these are “committees of one” but the chairperson may work with members of local groups who hold similar service positions to coordinate activities and policy across the geographical area. This is particularly important for activities that have frequent contact with people and organizations that are not a part of Alcoholics Anonymous.
